14. Healthy Body Healthy Eyes
Leave the first responsecleanliness of body, mind, and spirit. All else is compromise…”
Bernard Jensen, DC, Ph.D., nutritionist
For hundreds of thousands of years, our body has evolved to adapt to our environment. During our evolution, we hunted and gathered during the day and slept at night. We drank water and ate raw food. Our body evolved to work best under these conditions. To maintain good health, we need fresh air, clean water, natural fresh food, sunlight, exercise, and sleep. However, we are clever creatures who have made great technological advances and are now civilized. Civilization has improved our lives in many ways, but it has also moved us away from what is right for the body. In doing so, we are feeling the effects of abandoning nature and its simple requirements for the body. The effects are diseases.
1 in 2 Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime
National Cancer Institute – 2007 (NCI 2010)
American Heart Association – 2006 (AHA 2010)
2.7–3.9 million Americans have Hepatitis C (2007)
20 million Americans have gallstones (2004)
National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NDDIC 2010)
30 million Americans have chronic kidney disease
American Society of Nephrology (ASN 2010)
Prevent Blindness America (PBA 2008)
Advances in medicine have helped us to deal with diseases and lessen our suffering but it cannot keep us from getting sick. The statistics given earlier shows that most of us will develop some type of disease in the future. Only a lucky few will come away unscathed. Does this not tell us that something is terribly wrong with our current habits and lifestyle choices? Maybe it is time to look back at the requirements for health and start taking care of your body the way nature intended. If you start today, you may be able to undo the damage you may have done to your health. Perhaps, you can also motivate your families and friends to follow your lead and repair their health.
