12. Week 5: Effortless Vision Lesson

Leave the first response

    Tasks and Goals

  • master the over-dependence on glasses
  • master looking at a small area
  • master fusion
  • master awareness of physical strain
  • master awareness of thoughts and mental strain

At this point, you should be able to practice the skills in the lesson with ease. It will take many more weeks of practice before you understand and master them. This lesson introduces one last skill that you need once you have mastered all the others. It is to use your eyes without effort and in a relaxed manner. To do this, you will practice to look while keeping your eye muscles still.

The skills learned in the previous lessons train you to use your eyes correctly. The bad habits of using our eyes will continue to come back and fight for its dominance. As we continue to use and hone the new skills, the old habits will weaken. Over time, the right skills will be used more often than the bad. At some point, most likely when you reach 20/50 or 20/40 your vision may plateau. The last 15 to 25 percent of clarity is the most time consuming to improve. You will need to continue honing the skills until you can use it effortlessly. Once that is mastered, then you must let go of any thought of controlling those skills and allow the muscles to do its job. Seeing without effort will allow you to maintain clarity as you are looking. It is the last skill to master to overcome the plateau.

    Points to Note:

  • You should not wear your glasses when doing the exercise
  • You should practice the exercise in bright sunlight
    Instructions

Step 1. Sit comfortably by the window or outside in the shade, take slow deep breaths using the diaphragm. Tell yourself that you will pay attention for the duration of this exercise.

Step 2. Start converging with the fusion chart for five minutes or longer. As you do, feel the rhythm of your breathing.

Step 3. Look at the farthest object in the horizon (cloud, house, tree, grass, etc.) and focus on a few points (pick points formed from a corner or an edge) in the object. Then, look at a closer object and focus on a few points in that object. Work your way back to objects close to you. You may look at five or more objects on the way back. Once you reach an object in front of you, converge using the fusion chart for five seconds before working your way out to farther objects. Continue to work your way out and back for the duration of this step. Work your eyes quickly but give it enough time to spot and focus on a point before moving on to the next point. Try to look at different objects in all areas within your visual field.

      Do this:

    • Left eye only – two minutes or longer (skip fusion chart since you need both eyes to fuse)
    • Right eye only – two minutes or longer (skip fusion chart since you need both eyes to fuse)
    • Both eyes – ten minutes or longer

Step 4. Look at a point in an object ten feet in front of you. The point should be at the center of your vision. Pretend that your eye muscles are paralyzed in that position. The only way to look at something else is to move your head toward the next point you want to see.

Move your head slowly and smoothly to look at different points. You should adjust your head to look at the points and keep the eye muscles still. Release any desire or need to move or use the eye muscles. Pay attention to the movement and allow your eyes to automatically sharpen the small center area. Remember to turn your head to look at all objects in your field of vision including near objects. Do this for five minutes or longer.

Step 5. Allow the sunlight to shine on your face and onto the eyes as you look from point to point. Keep your focus on a cloud or on a tree, but allow the sunlight to caress the eyes. Do this for three minutes or longer. Do not look directly at the sun.

Step 6. To finish the exercise, rub your palms together until they are hot. Place your palms over your closed eyes without putting pressure on the eyes. Feel the soothing warmth and relaxation of the darkness as you take deep breathes. Do this for one to five minutes.
