Week 3 Lesson Tips
2 Comments-
Step 2 Tips
- Converging teaches our eyes the skills they need to point both eyes correctly at an object and to sharpen the image. You practice converging by using the fusion chart to fuse the dots and to read the words during fusion. The more you practice, the faster your eyes will learn to converge on an object. However, when you are looking at an object, you do not consciously try to fuse the object. Allow your eyes to use that skill to fuse on the object correctly. It is a skill only to train the eyes, not a skill you will use to see clearly.
- If you over-train with the fusion chart, your eye muscles may feel like they are stuck in the converging position. It is like having a muscle cramp. You can help it to relax again by looking at something far away like a cloud or tree for a few minutes. The more you practice converging, the stronger your muscles will get and the less this will happen.
- Looking at a small area, and converging are similar skills. You should remember to look at a small point on an object when you are converging. At first, this may seem as if you are putting strain on the eyes, but your eyes are actually more relax and can focus better when they are used this way.

Step 3 Tips
- Notice that you are using the fusion chart to converge in this step rather than looking down at the tip of our nose. By fusing, you give your eyes a new skill it can use to focus correctly at the object you want to see. Don’t try to fuse when we looking at an object. Instead your eyes will have the skill to converge when it sees that the two images do not line up correctly. It will automatically converge.

I would like to ask that can I just practice central fixation instead of the fusion lesson because it’s impossible for me to read the words while I’m fusing (the eyes are focusing at the distance where it used to be the position of the tip of the finger, so how can I read the word further away)
Can you please explain it more about this fusion lesson if I understand incorrectly?
Thank you for your reply!

Hi Alex,
Yes, you can do central fixation instead of fusion, but do not give up on fusion.
The idea behind fusion is to train the eyes to create one image at different distances. You can think of it as an improved version of central fixation.
When you are looking at the fusion chart,
1. You should fuse the two dots to form three dots.
2. Learn to hold the center third dot.
3. Once you can hold the center dot, then you can try reading the words.
It does take a lot of practice to master fusion. Many people struggle with it when they first start. Many people get dizzy and their eyes feel tired from doing it. After some practice and persistence, they normally can master fusion.
You can master fusion, just keep practicing.
Best Regards,
Wynn
